A Broader Approach to Physical Therapy in Newport Beach
A diagnosis or condition does not always tell the whole story. Two people with the same diagnosis may have very different pain, mobility restrictions, weakness, scars, previous injuries or surgeries, movement limitations, functional problems, and goals. At Focus On Health, physical therapy is individualized around how those physical problems are affecting you—not simply the name of the condition.
Some physical problems are relatively straightforward. Others involve persistent symptoms, several body regions, previous injuries or surgeries, scars, nerve-related limitations, or treatment that has helped only partially. When the physical picture is more complicated, an individualized approach can be especially important.
We begin by listening carefully to what you are experiencing and looking at the physical and functional problems that may be contributing to your limitations. Your history, symptoms, mobility, movement, physical findings, functional challenges, and goals help guide the treatment plan.
Hands-on manual therapy is central to the way we practice physical therapy. Through skilled hands-on assessment and treatment, we may address restrictions involving joints, muscles, fascia, nerves, scars, and soft tissues while gaining additional information about how those findings relate to movement and function. These hands-on findings are considered together with the rest of the physical therapy examination and help guide an individualized treatment approach.
Our integrative approach also allows us to consider a broader physical picture, where we look beyond a single painful area when appropriate. This may include relationships among the spine and extremities, TMJ, pelvic and abdominal regions, pelvic floor, diaphragm and chest wall, neural mobility, scar restrictions, balance, coordination, and the way several body regions function together.
The goal is not to use more techniques. It is to determine which physical findings matter and which physical therapy strategies are appropriate for the individual patient.
Treatment may include advanced manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, neuromuscular rehabilitation, movement retraining, patient education, home exercise guidance, and other physical therapy interventions selected according to the patient’s evaluation and response to care.
With nearly four decades of experience and extensive postgraduate training, Focus On Health works with both familiar physical therapy problems and patients whose symptoms or functional limitations do not fit neatly into a single diagnosis or body region.
Below is a broad look at the conditions, symptoms, and physical problems we help manage through physical therapy. The list reflects the range of patients who may seek our care; treatment remains individualized according to each patient’s physical therapy evaluation, needs, and goals.

Conditions, Symptoms, and Physical Problems We Help Manage Through Physical Therapy
When a medical diagnosis is listed, our physical therapy role is to address associated physical impairments, pain, mobility restrictions, movement limitations, and functional problems when they are identified during the physical therapy assessment and evaluation. If you do not see your specific problem on this list, please contact Focus On Health. We would be happy to discuss whether our physical therapy approach may be appropriate for your needs.

Not Sure Whether Physical Therapy Is Appropriate for Your Condition?
You do not need to know whether your condition fits a particular treatment technique before contacting Focus On Health. What matters is whether pain, mobility restrictions, weakness, movement limitations, or other physical and functional problems may be appropriate for physical therapy.
Treatment is based on the physical findings identified during your physical therapy evaluation rather than on a diagnosis alone. If you would like to learn more about the approaches we may incorporate into your care, you can explore our physical therapy treatments. If your situation has been difficult to sort out, involves more than one area, or previous care has helped only partially, please contact Focus On Health to discuss whether our approach may be appropriate for your needs.
